My favorite teller goes through all of her ones every week and pulls out the stars for me. I got 6 more today from series 2003. Unfortunately, all are very circulated. Here's my question: Since I'm averaging about 4 to 5 a week, at some point I'm not going to be able to afford to keep them all. I have over 30 now. How much are they worth, Just a few cents over face or maybe a quarter over face? What do I do with all of them? If crisp, no doubt I keep it.....so far I've kept them all, but thinking about dumping some of them. If I keep averaging this, I'll have over 200 in a year's time, and won't be able to keep them all on my budget. Suggestions are most welcome? I could maybe sell a lot at my coin club say 5 of them for 6 bucks......or is that too much? I just don't know. Thanks for your comments. Bob
Hi Bob, I'm in a similar position and I've pretty much decided I just have to let some of them loose back into the wild. Lately I've been getting many stars from my local tellers and i don't want to keep too many in $20's & $100's (many are pretty worn anyways). I always take what my teller is willing to give me b/c I don't want to discourage them, then I check for condition and print run size.
higher denom notes in anythgn but hehighest grades dont sell for much of anythign over face. To offer them at your local clubes, i would offer at face. Dollar star notes als0 face the same issue with premiums. With so many notes out there for sale, unless th enoteis from a small printing or some other rarity causing the note to fetch a premium. Circulated dollar star notes even if sold in a group will fetch face value. Sorry, but as much as i love to collect star notes, they are not worth much unless in high grade.
Where can I check the print run numbers? And yes, I will take every single one the teller saves so she will continue to do it.
Here's the link for the print run. I got it from some other thread in these forums a little while back. My thanks to the OP.
I'm looking for several star notes for my collection. Before you release them in the wild, please check here: http://www.teamsaber.com/john/notes_needed.html If it's a red or blue square, let me know. John
