I come across these from time to time in the till at work, for the most part they are mid to heavy circulation. Any point in pulling these out of the drawer and holding on to them or is there no real collectors value in that condition? Usually they are 1's and 5's but i've seen $20's before.
Tough question for the CT crowd. Some CT members save all of them, especially $1's. Some CT members only save the really nice notes, like fancy serial numbered stars, or CU & AU stars. If nothing else you can list what you find on the "for sale" forum section of CT and see if someone will give you anything over face value for them. You never know what others find value in....one man's ceiling is another mans floor.
I put aside everyone i come across just because they're different. I have no problem spending them though if money gets tight. I have never bought or sold one either. Guess it's kinda up to the collector. I watch some heavily circulated ones on ebay sell above face but usually it's because of the serial or mintage. If you think stars are neat i say grab them. Try to sell them and if you can't, then spend them.
This is a great site to look at if you find any star notes. I personally save any star notes I come across if they're $1 or $5 bills. http://mycurrencycollection.com/reference/stars/lookup
