I have a chance to purchase $30 face of SLQ’s in really nice condition. I haven’t graded them but they appear much much better than any I’ve bought before as “junk”. They look to be all very lightly circulated with nearly full details in every one of them. They were cherry picked by him many years ago for their condition. I guess if I had to grade them I’d say XF and up. None are key dates.

My question is how much I should pay for them? I want him to be happy with my offer as well as getting a decent deal. What do you think I should offer? I’m paying around 10.5-11x for 90% currently but obviously these should be more. Thanks for any reply’s.

Per Numismedia, problem-free common-date SLQs in XF go $32, at retail. You can extrapolate from there. $30 face? 120 coins? Hmm.

    Sounds like a nice lot.

Make sure you can spot any cleaned coins. That will reduce the value.

I wouldn't assume. Lay eyes on them first. If they are XF or so in condition, I'd probably pay $10-$12/coin.

$32 seems like a lot to me. Maybe I’m over grading them.
According to that link even in G4 they’re worth $6 each? That seems really high to me. I buy them for melt at the LCS in that condition.

I will be checkling them out for sure. I just need to figure out the grade first. I think I have over graded them from just a quick picture. In person will be next. I’m thinking even if they’re Fine to XF I’ll buy them since it seems they would be worth the investment.

The biggest concern these days is, are they genuine? With so many Chinese fakes on the market, you always have to keep that in mind. We can't help you without pictures.

What would you grade this one at to give me an idea when I get there? I found the visual guide for PCGS as well as an app that graded with very nice pictures, so I think I know what this is but want to see if I’m right. Ok. So you think this coin looks the same as these? The dates are barely visible on VG? If thats correct than I’m way off on what I was thinking.

That's a 1916... the date was engraved differently on those as compared to later dates. This is vital information that you need to learn before trying to grade.

Gotcha. That’s why I’m asking. Thanks for the information. Just found the later date grades

Here is a PCGS VG10 1927-S (which is a key date).

Ok so assuming they are all VG10 or better, how much would you pay for them?
And thank you for the help...I’m always happy to learn. I’ve only been buying silver as junk for years. I don’t do the numi side at all.

Melt for the commons. More for the 27-S 23-S 19-D and S etc.

@C-B-D this is what I’d say the average condition is. Some better not many worse. Grade? Thanks again

    $6-$8 each. 120 coins, around $800.
But if you are not getting any good dates, it's not worth it.
Better to buy just a few coins, good dates and great condition.
That last coin could be VF for $15 or so, but it's a common date.
