A guy that works for me has some coins that he might be willing to sell me. They have been sitting in a very old National cash register his dad received as payment for a job. He took the register and all the coins in it. So far I have seen the tip of the iceberg and I am anxious to see the rest. Please tell me how this quarter would grade and what would be the approximate fair value. The date is completly gone so I'm not too sure it's worth much. I have none in my collection so I may see if he wants to sell it. I have a couple different coins of interest I will post. Thanks Darryl Please limit yourself to one thread per subject.
Stars below eagle where (1917 to 1930 ) so it is one of those years however I can not make out a date on yours. Bruce.
One more thing it looks like a S mint mark if that is so, sorry you do not have the date or you could have a coin worth some money. Bruce.
It is a nice clear S, it's too bad about the date Maybe some of the others he has are in better shape. Thanks
Looks like G-4 to me. No letters in LIBERTY are visible. I'm not sure what the price may be. The later date Liberty Head nickles use to sell for a dollar but I'm sure what they sell for know. Lou
This coin would be from the earlier dates 1917 to 1924. The coins minted from 1925 to 1930 have the dates recessed to protect the date. Lou
I see that some of the 1917 quarters have different types based on head size. Does this look like it might fit into a special type that would make it a 1917? Thanks
Lou, If in fact this is a coin from the years of 1917 to 1924 and the S mint is that clear even if you could not read the date. Then the coin should be worth more then just melt, or would I be wrong in my thinking ? Bruce.
I would say it's a type 2 liberty quarter from the shape of her hair bonnet or pig tail. On the type 1 quarter the hair stands out straighter and on the type 2 the hair curves down more.
Bruce, if the coin has no date then it would be worth melt in my opinion. Darryl. looks like a type 2 from the close up pics. Lou
being an s, all 1917-1924S coins would be worth a little bit because the lowest price for a S minmark in those dates is $20. it would be safe to say yours MIGHT be worth $5-$10.
