Next week, I am going to the 2011 Native American dollar launch ceremony in Plymouth, MA. I plan to buy a roll of the coins at the ceremony and I wonder, should I go to the post office in Plymouth to get a stamp on the roll and have it canceled, or should I not do anything to the roll?

If you are planning on keeping the roll intact I would have it cancelled. I'll adds a little more value plus for the sake of memories.

    What does this mean?

What some people do when they get a roll of a particular coin on the day is launched is to go to a post office, and get a stamp and postmark on the roll. I'm wondering if I should do that with a roll of 2011 Native American dollar coins when I attend the launch ceremony next week, or if stamping them will deface the roll.

Ah, ok. Sounds like something I would do if ever had the chance. Menace makes it sound like it would be worth more that way but I would just do it for memories!

Some people sell first-day stamped rolls at coin shows or on places like eBay, and often they are marked up significantly. At the moment, if I do get the roll stamped, I'd save it as a souvenir of the day's events.

If you have the chance, do it. It adds much more value to the roll than the 44 cents it will cost you to purchase the stamp.
