    Okay members,

Here is your thread to spread the news. As many of you know, we all seem to concentrate on the bad dealers or grading services. So let us take a moment to spread the word to others about the good ones.

If you have a good dealer, supplier, grading service, share the good news.

Be specific in your post, and please remember that the no self promotion rule will still apply. If I have to obey this, than the rest of you do also :D

Let us all take a moment to help the new members and viewers of this forum.

    Thanks.

    Great Idea, ND.

As far as grading services are concerned, I think NGC, PCGS, and ANACS have benefited the coin market tremendously, in terms of consistency and setting a market standard. IGC can probably be thrown in there as well, given their growing market acceptance.

This is one of the reasons I became active in the coin market again, after about 18 years of being "out" because of my prior distaste for the inconsistent "slabbed coin" system. These services also benefit the raw coin market, as there is a consistent (albeit informal) comparison basis for grading raw coins.

As far as coin dealers are concerned, I'll have to let you know in a few months after I visit a few more coin shows and coin shops.

ND, you might want to list some of the other "national dealers" you think are the best (i.e. Heritage, Superior, etc.).

Well it would not be right for me to list dealers as such. Now for areas outside of our direct competition, such as error dealers or foriegn coins, that isn't a problem.
With suppliers, we don't deal with any that allow collectors to purchase, so I can only pass along the companies that I hear about.

    Dealers for error coins.

    Grading services.

    We use

Anacs and ICG are considered by all to be the next two good services. We buy and sell coins graded by both, but use the other two for our submissions.

I am happy with the price I paid for ICG certified coins against the premium that PCGS was getting for the same coin(s). ICG's slab with the Intercept Shield protection is definitely a plus over the others. Think about it...Lucent Technologies Bell Labs developed this protection for other industries and only ICG had the fortitude to incorporate this existing techinology into their slab. Factor in that Hertiage is now recognizing ICG in their auctions is another cudo! Grey sheets is now giving this company high marks. Finally, a relatively new certification company that seems to be making all of the right moves...somebody to keep the big guys on their toes!

Like I said, I bought ICG coins at recent shows and was very happy with the coins I got...at almost half the price! Once their slab and service catches on, I bet you will see their slab prices increase. (Shhhhhhhh I have other coins I am looking to pick up, then these prices can go up!)

I like thecoinshop.com for supplies. I've known them personally for years and the owner, Gary is a super guy. Alco is a good supply company too.
I like heritage for selection & silvertowne for service.
My favorite LARGE SHOWS are FUN and Baltimore and of course any ANA show.
My favorite MEDIUM show is Dalton, GA Blue Ridge show.
I like ANACS for collector coin varieties since they list Overton, VAM, etc on the insert.
Oh, and my fave color is blue, I like long walks on the beach...OOPS wait, wrong forum hehe.

I agree with Ed Zak here and would like to express my satisfaction with ICG as well. I've read more positive reviews and opinions about ICG than negative things about them, so far. I am extremely satisfied with the ICG certified coins I've purchased this year.

The most honest, reputable and knowledgeable dealer I have ever known was my grandfather, Warren Wielt. He passed away last August and to those in the Northeast who knew him, he has has been, and continues to be, sorely missed.

When it comes to coins, I bounce around, but for other things, I have to say I like buying books from Amazon, particularly the used sellers - some great, cheap, fast bookstores. I highly recommend this. For coin supplies, while there are lots out there, I like Wizard - it's easy and price is always within a buck or so of the lowest alternative.

IS NOT SELF PROMOTION BUT IT IS THE TRUTH!..

The most honest professional grader I know in my life with a lot of witnessis is MR. ALAN HAGER of ACCUGRADE. Then without him and his Invention on slabber of a coins and cards all this Third PARTY GRADING will never existed today and even my coin 1995 Penny On Dime-ACG-MINT will never be graded as Mint.
001-4-4.jpg Thank you. Mr. Alan hager of Accugrade.

Um...didn't Mr.Hager of Inaccugrade get sued?

Ranked "unacceptable" in a 2002 survey of PNG (Professional Numismatists Guild) and ICTA (Industry Council for Tangible Assets) members in terms of grading accuracy and ability to detect altered, repaired, damaged, cleaned, and counterfeit coins.

    • In deciding a Code of Ethics Violation Complaint in March 2003, the American Numismatic Association Board of Governors issued the following statements as part of its findings:
"ASA Accugrade does not clearly identify, particularly for the consumer to whom ASA Accugrade coins are sold, that ASA Accugrade coins do not conform to the industry accepted standards."
"A significantly larger percentage of grading errors appear to be made by ASA Accugrade then by other grading services."
"The [ANA] Board ... believes that [ASA Accugrade] standards can mislead the end consumer with regard to the value of the numismatic item being purchased."

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

How about taking it out of that slab and sending it to a reputable company like PCGS or NGC?

it is alright, problem is that thread contains links of trusted seller/dealers and some of those domains could have expired 8 years or ownership might have changed (replaced with site with malware or fraudulent listings).
