Just thought I would share my latest token with you all, not sure if it is a original or one produced in around 1825, need to find out the correct weights for them De Orc
I have several Canadian tokens, but not that one and none that old. A lot of the tokens from Canada's colonial period are pretty interesting.
This is what I know about it so far Spread Eagle Tokens -- this is a series that began with an 1813 original that was struck by a Boston merchant who settled in Montreal, and were struck over the tokens of Bristol merchant Samuel Guppy. The originals were not at first well received because of the use of the eagle, an American symbol; remember that the War of 1812 had just concluded. Light weight imitations appeared about 1825 or later and were dated 1813, 1814, and 1815. Hence my need to find out the weight of the originals De Orc :thumb:
Steve, I just went thru every Canadian coin page in my 1800-1900 Krause and saw NOTHING like it. You have a special piece I think... Ben
Thanks Ben now that would be very nice as it cost me next to nothing not that I am honestly botherd about the value as I like it De Orc
Do they list the weight and all the other specifications on the piece? I think that is what he's after. Take care B
Spread Eagle token Withers (#1714-1715) lists it as 27mm, 6.2gms whille Charlton shows 27.5-27.7 mm and 6.1-6.5 gms. (Clockwise wreath (maybe, from your picture) and counterclockwise wreath versions exist.
