Spotting Fakes

    I found this guide to be the most comprehensive on fakes.


    Given, "11. Check for "unnatural" wear due to weak strikes, or weakly-struck devices." I think this auction looks like a copy. Any thoughts?

    Yeah, that coin looks funny. Plus, what's with the item location being listed as "Heartland of the USA"? Why does eBay continue to allow this? If you sell something, you should be required to give at least the city, state & country of your location. I think eBay's lack of responsibility in monitoring and setting strict guidelines for selling items on it's site is a major reason why so many fakes are on the market. They should be brought before congress to answer questions of interstate and international fraud.

    How are they responsible? eBay extracts fees from every transaction, this may implicate them since they are a participant in auctions where the item is a fake and thus a fraudulent transaction has occurred.
