I just got off the phone with Michael White at the US Mint. I asked about the 3" silver America the Beautiful "quarters". He told they are going to be produced, but release dates not yet determined.

I also asked about the Satin Finish Coins used in the US Mint Sets. He told me that as of this date the mint was planning on using the satin finish coins and not the regular business strikes in these sets.

At this point HSN has probably sold probably close to a quarter million dollars worth of satin finish coins claiming they were not to be produced anymore period. If the mint does include satin finish coins how is HSN going to justify all these claims they have made? Interesting to me on how all this is going to play out.

Just a footnote he was very pleasant to talk with, sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

I don't think some customer service rep is going to divulge an unannouced major change (no more satins) to some anonymous caller. Plus even if there is a change, I doubt a customer service rep, or even a manager would be made privy to this info.

You may be correct. Keep this information hidden from the public, but inform the "Coin King" on HSN. But, according to HSN the mint did release the information, but not a single person has been able to find out if this is true. The other thing is why would it be something that needs to be such a secret? It's not like customers can go somewhere else to get them, whatever the mint does is what is offerred.

Maybe we need to file a Freedom of Information Act request on all business dealings between the US Mint and HSN.

I would not be surprised if there was some type of business agreement between them that is not being disclosed to the public. After all, how does HSN get coins from the mint, and have them already graded prior to them being released to the public?

Maybe Mr. Moy is enjoying complimentary George Forman Grills from HSN?

Mr. Coin Lover - a point of clarification - by using the fellows name - Michael White, there is the suggestion that he is "somebody" at the mint.

Or was he just the Rep. you talked to and you got his name?

    Thanks

If you go to the mint's web site and click on pressroom his name and number are listed. It says he works at the Office of Public Affairs. He is the individual I have been referred to before by a Rep. with that individual stating he is the one that will have the answer. So, I guess this Rep. thinks he is somebody. Maybe he is not "somebody" enough to enjoy the George Foreman Grills.

So there will be another 50 quarter designs for "American the Beautiful" right? Just ruins collecting quarters for me.

Thank you Mr. Coin Lover for that clarification. I think the LEVEL of contact you had is paramount to determining what the MINT's idea is on whether there will be Satin coins or not.

Krispy - thanks for that link. You are definitely Mr. Link - AND I MEAN THAT IN TOTAL RESPECT.

However, it doesn't address the Satin controversy. My guess, nothing is changed.

Now normally I don't have a problem with the "Hucksters" on HSN. Oh come on - this has been going on for years and years before HSN they were in most major cities.

But they might be in trouble here. This could be very interesting.

Right now I pay $80 for basic cable in my area. HELLO. But I just line up with everyone else at the beginning of the month and .......
