we have a split 1976 50c coin, and just curious what it may be worth as finding info has proven difficult. We have both side in good condition.
I don`t understand what you are showing. Have you one 50c with damage to both sides and you are showing a circulated 50c as an example as to what it should look like.? How do you know the date ? It looks to me like someone has cut a coin in half along its edge.
Personally, I don't think your coin is worth anything at all now that it's ruined. Maybe you can make a pendant with it. good luck!
I originally thought it had been cut too, but I have been trying to research it and its called split planchet, it's an error that occurs during the making. The pics are of one coin, it was still in one piece when my partner got it, and only noticed because the coke machine wouldn't accept it. Thinking it was fake he pride it apart.
I did a quick ebay search and didn't turn up any Australia 50 cent split planchets but there were a few other split planchets that were in the ~$30-$40 range.
Wow, guess I was wrong. I've never heard of such an error, I just thought somebody cut it in half like a trick coin. I guess it's worth something too. Good for you!
