Spiked 1954 D

    As you can see the D is spiked... Any opinions? Just curious...

    whats the dif in a die chip and a die gouge? they are not the same??

    As I understnad it, a "chip" is the result of a small piece of the die breaking off, and a "gouge" is the result of a tool slipping in the engraving or re-engraving of the die.

    thanks for the education satootoko...but does the end result looks similar, or they usually look widely different? Like what it the posted picture would lend someone to think its one over the other??

    Normally I think of a die gouge being a bit on the larger side, such as this. A die chip I generally think is a bit smaller, but could be wrong. Roy has the correct description though. :thumb: And to answer your question, they do look similiar in a way, but if you see enough pics or coins, you should be able to tell them apart soo enough. ;)
