Does anyone else in here find a peculiar enjoyment from spending collector coins? I really do. Makes me feel like I'm spreading the numismatic love. Its never anything special. Kennedy halves (not silver!), dateless buffalo nickels, rusted steel cents. Of course, if I ever found a steel cent in circulation, I'd cherish it forever, regardless of condition.

I must be getting your steel cents then, because I found a number of them during the time I worked at Wal-Mart.

It is fun to sprinkle some coins into circulation and have the hope that someone will notice them and be interested.

I spend clad kennedies all the time. I'm not sure if I would call those collector coins. But I always do have fun seeing the clerk's reaction. The only place I've ever spent a half and not gotten a suprised reaction was at a coin shop.

i try to spend prez bucks. i say try because when i attempt to spend them i get a befuddled look by some people at checkouts some time. i find myself explaining that they are really legal tender! amazing how many uninformed cashiers out there! whoops you said collectables!

I too have tried that and I too get some interesting results. For example on commuter trains conductors have said "Hey, notice there are no slots in my coin changer for those stupid things" or in a restaurant "Don't you have any real money?" Grocery store check out "Now your going to hold up everyone while I have these checked by the head cashier". Flea market entrance "Yeah, right. Now how about a real dollar, pal?" I've been looking for a bum that wants a hand out to see if they too would reject them.
I've spent Wheat Cents, rusted steel cents, $2 bills, old Ike dollars and lots and lots of halves.
Most of the $2 bills and halves get the same results as the baby sized dollars.

this is why i think the bucks will end up in storage. especially if the dollar bill continues to be printed.

I spend clad kennidies, and on one occasion, i spent 2 ike dollars at a garage sale, and a little kid was at the register thingy, and when i handed him the ikes, he runs to his mom and goes, "Mommy, look what that boy gave me! I think that they are worth alot of money!" It was funny because he was like 5 or 6

I have spent kennedys, ikes, sacs, and pres dollars...

Only once has the pres dollar made a waiters take a second look...no fast food places or stores have taken a second look at them...

A bit sad...I wanted people to notice :(

I forgot about one funny story. Myself, a couple freinds of mine and a group of acquaitences were hanging out in the park a couple months ago. I remembered that may freind was a little bit interested in coins and paper money, so I showed him the kennedies (about 10 of them) in my pocket. Some of the others gathered around and looked at them, intrigued. Someone asked me if he could buy one. I said, "sure, seventy-five cents each". I ended up with people lined up to give me 75 cents for each fifty-cent peice. It was hilarious. Of course, I didn't actually do it. I explained to everyone that they were only worth face value, and sold them to the guys for 50 cents each. LOL.

Unless it's in remarkable condition, I will spend Kennedy halves, Susan B's, Sacs, two dollar bills, etc... The other day, I bought three dollars worth of potatoes at a farmers market using some old Kennedy halves. The lady almost soiled herself. I'm thinking, "What? They're still good."

I think that if I ever get to be exceedingly, ridiculously, or obnoxiously rich, I would want to spend a double eagle or two. :-D

Come on, tell me you wouldn't want to get one of THOSE in change?
