Final production numbers Uncirculated Silver Dollar: 65,609 Proof Silver Dollar: 207,248 Uncirculated Gold Half Eagle: 16,149 Proof Gold Half Eagle: 41,517 2006 American Legacy Set: 48,452 I understand that commerative coins just aren't as popular as the standard Silver Eagles. However with these number being so low for the uncirculated pieces does anyone here care to speculate as to the future value in one year from now? I live in the SF bay area and have purchased several of each except for the gold proof. I only purchased the silver proof directly from the mint. 3 silver proof 3 NGC MS70 ($80 each) 2 Gold Uncirculated $10 each over mint issue price Don't ever plan on selling them... My inheriters will be happy I hope.

I saw these in Coin World. WOW! The use of the old design is impressive! Had I the money, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the gold half eagles. Plural... I'd buy several.
I predict the value of the uncirculated dollar and gold coins will increase modestly (perhaps 50% above issue price). The proofs will probably stay about as they are now. [disclaimer: I own only proofs (3 dollars and 1 gold). I think they a re beautiful coins, especially the reverses].
Actually, 16,149 is kind of high as far as Unc $5 gold commemoratives go. The Geo Washington in '99 and the World Cup in '94 hit >22,000 but everything else since '94 has had a mintage less than 15,000 (5 < 10,000 and 5 between 10,000 and 15,000).
The first spouse series and American Eagle programs will probably knock down the popularity and value of commemorative gold coins for the next few years. Maybe a decade or two from now they will be better appreciated.
