It is being discussed, so we still have a shot. Read this:

    http://www.delawareonline.com/newsjournal/local/2005/02/19dollarcoinsmayf.html

    Afterwards, write here:

    http://mygov.governmentguide.com/my...&client_id.1=mygov&mailid.2=4919481&client_id.

Many here know how I feel about ALL of the presidents gracing our dollar coins (similar to the state quarter program). President Teddy Roosevelt had it right when he wanted our coins to combine beauty, grace, liberty, and majasty all in one! This is what our representatives need to understand. Write yours so this stupid idea stops in its track.

Our founding fathers NEVER intended for actual people to grace our coins. Ironically, even though Teddy Roosevelt demanded many of the beauties you see today, he also pushed congress to adopt Lincoln for our cent...basically his only mistake in coin design approvals.

Write today! Remember your average person can't even name off 10 Presidents much less tell you who is on today's coins and currency...so your voice will be heard.

    I wrote, did you?

I see what you mean entirely but if the average person can't even name off ten presidents maybe it would be a way for them to learn about them from seeing them on the coinage...besides I think it would be awesome if they could amend the rules to allow one alive person to be on them...I think Clinton would look great on a dollar coin!

That's it...please pull the thread. Clinton on a coin along with others is reason enough why they should NEVER have real people on American circulated coins.

Kill in now before I read further.

Ohhh come now. It is not the end of the world yet! I suggested Clinton as when he was president the economy was great and he made things so interesting towards the end of his tenure in office!

Clinton didn't have a darn thing to do with the economy. When will all of you people finally wake up and realize the shame he brought to the most powerful and highly respected office in the world?

Which is the very reason why he and others shouldn't be on coins! I think he was a joke as well, but my comment can be viewed as political and hence the reason why this discussion could be subject to red markings.

Put him on a commemorative, but nothing more.

Dollar coins (or any coin) should demonstrate beauty, grace, majesty, liberty and freedom...nothing else like a definition of the word "is".

As the American currency legislation states;'No living person is to be depicted on American currency or coins'.This rules out depicting former Presidents Jimmy Carter,George Bush Snr.,& Bill Clinton,as well as President George Bush Jr. on coins.

Silvereagle82,we are talking about the Presidents of America themselves, not whether they were Democrats or Republicans. As to President Clinton being on a coin,he already appears on some - the medal-coins issued in 1993 to commemorate President Clinton's inauguration by the Hutt River Province Principality.

Oh come now Clinton was and still is great. I'd just love to buy one of his autographed books!

That is so true but how about the currency? I think the new $5 bills and up look horrible and the bep says "Safer, Smarter, More Secure" but it should say at the end "Ugly". If you look at a new one they are hardly even green any more! +if you go a 100 years back -/+ they were really beautiful and artistic. Now they are garbarge!(-1 and 2's)

Yes that is very true Aidan about putting an alive person on but I also said it would be awesome if they could bend the rules for one living person...(Bill Clinton!)

If the rules were changed, then it could mean that America could issue coins with a portrait of the current President.I'm afraid,it sounds like one of those banana republican ideas - look at places like Kenya,Malawi,& North Korea.I'm glad that Zimbabwe hasn't depicted Robert Mugabe on a coin,as he is a terrible man.

Nonono I was thinking about just changing the rule one time and for one man. That man is Bill Clinton, the 42nd president of these United States and former governor of Arkansas.

    If you get Clinton
    I want Nixon
He was smart enough to have David M. Kennedy as Sec of Treasury.

NOS...I'm still not sure if you're trying to be funny or trying to pick a political fight, I'm sincerely hoping for the former but fear the latter. Opinions will vary strongly all over the board as is the norm anytime one starts a political discussion. It would take an exceptional man to be the exception to the rule that you're hoping will be bent. Based on that fact, I don't think we'll see your hope come to fruition...whew!

Not very long ago this discussion would have been stopped already. But the owner of the site has decided to allow more latitude. Feel free to discuss the issue of the proposed Presedential coins.

But if it gets personal - the thread WILL BE stopped.

No I am dead serious and am not trying to pick a fight at all. If I was I would have brought our current president into play and compared the two. I am trying to stay very neutral here with this. As for Nixon I think that is a great idea as well as they wouldn't need to change the rules as he passed on in 1994.

I for one do not think that most of our presidents, regardless of party deserve to be on a coin. It doesn't matter that most Americans can not name all the Presidents but all Americans should know that Washington was the first President of the first modern day democracy, and Lincoln was the first President of how our nation is defined today, a Republic. If one wants to see other Presidents, then yes the mint should have a special series but in that case all of the presidents should be included to avoid the mindless politics that seem to be more importent then the issues today and perhaps also has replaced the issues in some cases. Now the issue here is one that I would agree with Ed with, with the exceptions of the above mentioned Presidents and one other thing, bring back the Franklin half dollar. Now that was a beautiful coin in my mind and his life represented his country in so many ways.

I do believe they finally approved the Franklin commemorative this year. So you'll have that to look forward to ;)
