Not quite a slick. My first crappy ancient bronze. Brings my ancient coin total to 2. Too expensive at $1.25? I think there is some extra black crud that can be removed from what I think is the obverse. You can make out a bit on the reverse. Rob
Not too bad, still plenty of detail to attribute it. Try soaking it in distilled water for a few months (brushing it off every few days, cleaning the water weekly), that is the best way to clean your ancients without damaging them.
You've got to answer some questions for yourself. Do you like cleaning coins? Or do you prefer collecting them? Or a little of both? You might try soaking that one in distilled water and chipping away at the crud with a toothpick, but I doubt you'll improve it. It already appears to have been harshly cleaned, as some of the raw bronze is showing through. Perhaps the remaining crud is there to stay. With what little cleaning experience I've had, I've answered those questions for myself as follows: I prefer collecting nice coins, although I don't mind a little light cleaning now and then. I would not have paid anything for that coin, but whether $1.25 was too expensive is entirely up to you.
I happen to agree with JA. I, too, prefer collecting decent coins and most "to be cleaned" lots are not worth the effort. I believe the reverse legend on this particular coin is REPARATIO REIPVB and the coin is most likely an LRB showing emperor raising kneeling, turreted woman. Perhaps something like this VALENTINIAN II AE2 reverse:
