    Hi,

Recently I've noticed a lot of iffy looking counterstamps on British Indian Rupees on the 'bay - from different sellers too - many with good high feedback scores - not that that says much I know.

Would anyone know anything more about their origins?

    A couple of examples below

    thanks...

The Tughra stamp on both of those coins are from the same punch.
And they seem to be recently stamped. Made to dupe or add imaginary value is my guess.

That's right - trying to add value is clearly the intent. But what are they trying to imitate? The Tughra on it's own was not an "official" counterstamp to these coins down through history - as far as I know. I suspect it's just trying to add value with no historical context.
