Title says it all- I bought a bag of dimes from the bank on Thursday, and in addition to the G-VG 1929-D Mercury dime, this 1 Reale from 1782, Mexico City, was in there. Photos are a little dark but I thought I'd share nonetheless.

Quite a find :thumb: It is a 1/2 reale by the way.

Thanks! I assumed it was a 1 reale since it just says "R" but after looking at a few photos online the 1 reale actually says "1R". What an unusual way to distinguish denominations!

The legends and the placement of them are slightly different as well. But if you're not used to looking at them you wouldn't notice ;) And the R, in this case, is the abreviation for REX - not for reale.

I think it must have been in someone's "coin pile" that got cashed in... there were also a couple buttons in there too.

I have been trying to reply, but my darn computer keeps freezing up! I have to say, awesome find! Totally awesome, even a nice find on the Mercury! The history behind all of those, makes you stop and think. Very sweet find. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
