Group, I did a seach of CoinTalk and couldn't find anywhere where anyone was talking about references for Spanish cob coins. I just got a few from someone and was interested in seeing if I can identify anything on them. They are all copper. I looked online (google) and couldn't find much either. Does anyone have any references, both written (book) and online that they can point me to? I'll post a couple of images just to get the interest going, in case anyone wants to see. -Daniel
I don't know what key words you are using in your searches but I think you need to use some new ones. There is a ton of information out there. Quite a bit right here on Coin Talk - Spain & Spanish Colonial In your searches on Coin Talk try just using single words like - cob or cobs - you'll have much better luck. On Goggle, you can use key phrases but you have to use the Advanced Search feature for it to work.
I think I need to work on my searches in general. Thank you for those links. I certainly did not find them when I looked. -Daniel
Daniel: Did you find these with a metal detector? Or buy them? I think that (considering that they are supposed to be silver, I believe) that they look like copper.
Frank, I bought a small group of coins from someone and these came along for the ride. It was a friend who does not really collect these so he sent me an eclectic mix. The thng is, though, that he included lots of coins that I do not normally collect either - these and a few of the others that I have posted recently. But I get to learn something new from all of them. -Daniel
