OK, so all my life I have been fascinated by space exploration...it has been my #1 interest (yes, even more than coins). I have collected coins for a little more than a decade now.

It wasn't until yesterday that I really put the 2 together and realized that there have been many space flight commemoratives (in one form or another) issued by various countries. It would be fun (and challenging) to put together as complete of a set as possible of them.

So, I think the first thing to do is begin assembling a lits of all of them that I can find. I haven't yet done much research yet...but I know that Russia had a couple Yuri Gagarin commemoratives, the Marshall Islands had some space shuttle commemoratives in the late 1980s or so (I have one of them...unfortunately there are no Marshall Island coins listed in the World Coins Catalog 34th ed). I also saw a really cool looking silver Skylab coin from the Maldive Islands issued in 1993 with a mintage of only 1440).

What I'm looking for is nationally issued coins...not tokens. If anyone can suggest others for my list (which I am currently working on). I would really appreciate it. Thanks!!!

    Wait till next year.

The US mint will issue a TEN coin set. One silver coin for each planet and a gold coin for the sun.

Don't forget the Sputnick (sp?) rotating coin. I don't have a scan handy of that one....but do own one.
