Hello Everyone. I started collecting coins about 5 years ago and am an amateur enthusiast. I know this is a predominantly US coin site but I realize many members are extremely knowledgeable about other coins as well. I started with the usual US coins Double Eagles, Indian Head etc. but switched to mainly UK sovereigns, Guineas and Crowns etc. Would love to share views and photos with similar enthusiasts and pick the brains of experts on this site. Will post some photos here.
I have several Sovereigns and two Guineas, and this is my favorite: Great Britain Sovereign 1963 Why 1963? Back in 1963 when I was a teenager, I saw a film called "From Russia with Love". It was the second of the "James Bond" films with Sean Connery as the British secret agent. In the film, Bond is sent to Istanbul to meet a beautiful Russian spy. There was a scene early in the film where Bond's chief hands him an attache case with some devices, including straps containing "fifty gold sovereigns". The coins were clear enough to show the head of young Elizabeth II. At that time Americans could not legally own gold coins (with some exceptions), and I could not have afforded one then anyway. About two years ago I purchased one at a coin show.
