    South Carolina Revenue Scripts

Well guy's, lately I have been looking at some South Carolina Railroad notes and have decided to add a few.

Here is one of the three that I am working on and I just secured this one. This one is a S.C. Revenue Script..not a Railroad Note
Take a look at the example of engraving by the American Bank Note Company...WOW!! Remarkable job!

Hope you enjoy...this note is Gem new...

Hey Phoenix...if things go right tonight there will be the two following notes added to the collection.

$5 South Carolina RailRoad Fare in PCGS 63 PPQ and the last 50 cent note of the 5th Issue of fractionals, the "Crawford" in CHCU64PMG......

If you think the $50 was a beautiful note...just wait till you see the $5..it is in deed stunning.
There are more but I have to slow down now that XMass is around the block...

I will send you a note on whats in the goodiebag when I get back to the bank this week. I did not write it down.

********The Auction just closed and I got the two notes I was bidding on************* will post them when I receive them in the next week to 10 day!! I am one happy camper as the S.C. Railroad note is indeed spectacular!!

    Night all...

    Congrats RickieB!

The Fifty is in incredible shape! Any idea how many were issued? Back in 1872 $50 was quite a bit of money. Would think the issued number of notes is not that high.

Cannot wait to see that $5!!!

    Best Regards

The South Carolina Railroad Scrip is one of the most common state issues. Until fairly recently, uncut sheets of notes were available for under $100.00 with individual notes going for about $20.00. These prices remained steady until they someone got the idea of marketing them on Ebay. If you look around you can still find them in dealers stock at a fraction of what they go for on Ebay.

What you see on the market are notes from these sheets which have been cut up. They have been third party graded and are being hawked as rare notes when they are not. Hundreds of each denomination are known to exist.

Since the notes on the market were unissued, most of them are going to grade high. If you believe in the TPG grading scales, they are all likely to be 60 or above.

The unissued notes are available in such a large quantity because their circulation was prohibited by the United States Supreme Court who determined that the notes violated federal law.

Yes, they are a common note..and heavily counterfited as well. The fakes all have a soft look to them and were printed on tan colored paper. Some of the notes can be had at fair value, but EBay is really not the source for the rise in interest or value in these notes. The American Bank Note Company is revered as a Pinnacle in engraving and the notes of this series are just stunning works of Art. For me I collect this not for it's value, but fromy Son who loves trains. Might I mention that I will not purchase one raw for any reason and the minimum grade I buy is PCGS or PMG 64-65. They can be collected as he mentioned for a small premium.

    Good hunting..:smile :smile
