I don't know British coining practices. And this was during WWII. This is a 1943 South Africa 3 pence coin which had something done to the date, probably on the die. Since it appears to ONLY affect the "43" I'm trying to decide whether it was recut, repunched or what. Since it was done during WWII, maybe whatever was done was meant to conserve the die. I figured I'd ask here first. If we can diagnose this one, then I've got two 1945 South Africa 3d coins that we can work on next.
If we can get this one solved then I can do the same for the two 1945 South Africa 3 pence coins. The recut(?) on the "5" isn't as obvious BUT the radial die breaks are interesting. For the moment I'm still blaming less stringent mint practices during WWII.
