Source for circulated modern coins

I have been collecting coins for almost 40 years and I still haven’t completed a single series. I only need 11 Jefferson’s and 9 Roosevelt’s to have the circulated sets complete and would like to finally finish them through 2006. I don’t have a local coin shop to buy these inexpensive circulated coins from so I need to find an online source. All of the online sites I’ve looked at only carry high grade or high dollar coins, but all I’m looking for are average circulated (VG-AU) coins for these sets. Are there any sites anyone trusts and could recommend for finding these types of coins? Is there another source I may not have thought of to find these coins?

While I don't exactly collect a series of anything, I know what you mean. I have an older friend of the family who has collected for years as well, and he recently made a similar comment heh. It almost seems like it's the nature of the beast ("the beast" being coin collecting). Maybe it would help if I didn't collect..

    1) Foreign currency (no specific country or period)
    2) Colonial currency (no specific period or state)
    3) U.S. currency (including obseletes and COnfederate, etc.)
    3) Silver (Bullion or not, no specific country)
    4) Type (Dansco 7070)
    5) Older coins than the 700 has slots for (early copper and silver)
    6) Ancient (no specific period or area)

...and I could go on. I could probably *could* complete something if I focused my effects on *one* thing :D

Contact this dealer in your home state - CIVITAS - send an email to Josh, tell him what you want. I'm quite sure he will be able to help you.

I'm the same way samjimmy, both with coins and other collectables.

Thanks GDJMSP. I'll email him and see what he has.

Sorry, my friend. I didn't realize it was meant to be a "want list".
You're right. Those type of posts aren't allowed in this section.

I wasn't initially intending to post a want list, just trying to get info on where to buy common coins to finish my sets. I figured if I listed the dates it would become a want list by default and be against the rules.

I would have to suggest eBay. There is an enormous number of US coins listed at any given time...usually between 100,000 and 120,000. http://coins.ebay.com/

Thanks Mikjo0, I'll check out their web site.

    Thanks I Palindrome I.

DJCoins, I check eBay frequently, but since the coins I need for these sets are fairly low cost in circulated condition the postage is usually more than the coin is worth.

I looked at the site and the prices appear reasonable for the things I'm familiar with. I wish they had more photos. I also like the fact that they disclose problems and cleaning on the coins. I might give them a try since it never hurts to have another online dealer to work with. I don't mind owning circulated coins.

This brings up a question I always have but can never quit reconcile. Just how collectible are cleaned morgan and peace dollars? Very often there are cleaned coins available for date/mintmarks that I'd like to buy but I don't want to intentionally put something into my collection that isn't worth more than melt value. There seem to be huge numbers of cleaned silver dollars out there that violate the taboo against buying cleaned coins.
