I was drunk and wanted to sort my 1982 zinc and copper pennies, but I can't hear the drop test, and I didn't have an accurate enough scale to measure with... so I built this balance out of a Papa Johns pizza box, paper clips, and beer caps.
The drop test? Is that like the flip test but you drop it? I usually flip my 1982 pennies and listen for a ring.
Exactly, I read you drop them onto a hard surface and you can hear the ring, but my hearing is not great so it all sounds the same to me.
Yes, I probably could have built something far more stable and accurate if I wasn't loaded, but it somehow still managed to work out
I like the Idea of a home made scale, Me I just throw them back in the regular coins when I roll hunt. If I get $5.oo worth of pennies I usually come out with at least $2.oo worth of copper. I'm happy with my results. Great scale.
The easiest way for me is to flip the pennies in the air to listen for the ringing of the copper. Whenever I tried the drop test I could never hear a difference.
Man, sorting 1982 pennies would make me want to stab myself in the eye. But pizza and beer would make it tolerable! Cheers!
