Erm, I know this subject has been beaten more than a dead horse at a stepchild convention, but I purchased some SuperSafe heavy weight currency sleeves today to put some of my loose notes in. They are TOUGH to use, as in the notes get bent up and creased if you aren't ultra careful in placing them in the sleeves. Am I doing it right? I would imagine since sleeves are so popular they would not harm the notes upon entry. Should I stretch them or something before inserting the notes? Should I throw them in the yard and just buy some Lighthouse currency pages?
I put my notes in sleeves before I put them in lighthouse pages. The rings from the binder can put impressions on the pages, and if the notes are not protected, the rings can leave marks on them too. As far as the sleeves themselves, just insert them by hand as far as they'll go in without force. Then tap the edge of the sleeve on a table or hard surface to get them to go in. In this way, you can use a good amount of force without harming the note.
You can also slide a clean (dinner) knife blade back and forth in the holder to loosen things up. Not a sharp knife of any kind.
I am of the opinion currency sleeves would be better if the were open across the top and one side as well.
first and most important is the quality of the currency sleeve some contain acid based products that crack and brown over time and can actually harm the notes in them
The OPs sleeves are the Super Safe brand that are acid free and pvc free. I am partial to the ultra clear Melinex sleeves.
