I see where the Australian 20 Rev. has a high value on a wave coin. I've looked at some images on line, but can't see what the wave refers to. Can someone take a look at this and tell me if it's a common or a error wave. Thanks ----- Dave
I can't say about the wave Dave but I have the same exact coin, so I'd be interested also. Worth about $20.00 I believe w/o.?
This may help in what to look for. http://www.australian-coins.com/australian-decimal-changeover/1966-wavy-baseline-20-cent/
Funny - I JUST researched this two days ago. The link posted has lots of good info on Australian coin varieties (as well as determining the design varieties for different mints, although it's not comprehensive.)
The wavy 20 cents only affects 1966 20 cents coin that were struck in London. The rumor is that one die was somehow damaged during the process, causing a wavy effect. Hence this variety is actually somewhat quite scarce. Even in low fine condition, this can mark towards 100 - 200 dollar mark. I have went through at least 100+ 1966 20 cents coins for the past 10 years and have not found one yet.
