I finally went through a big bag(hundreds) of old foreign coins I've had since I was a kid. I know very little about coins and even less about coins from around the world. I'm posting a few I thought were cool. The first one is a 1913 Australian penny. I was surprised by its large size. The second is an 1898 five cent coin from Hong Kong. Again, I was surprised at how small it is. The next one is a 1918 10 pfennig. It has rust on it, I guess it's not made of any kind of precious metal. I don't have a clue what the last one is, but it's dated 1869. I'm sure you folks know what it is.
Well your 1913 penny is not Australian it is British LOL the last coin is a 5 Franc from Belgium The Coblenz 10pf is possibly made from Iron and is a local currency issued at the end of the 1st world war, have a read up on Notgeld I realy like the 5f piece it is also 0.9000 silver has a mintage of 12,658,000 unfortunatly I am rubbish at grading so wont comment on the value :high5:
bag of coins You have some nice foreign coins CountyWorker. When I was a kid I received a bag of foreign coins from a British Army officer from his foreign travels. That was when I was 11. I still have them at 65. It's how I got started in this great hobby of ours.
I live in Stockton, CA and we have the largest inland seaport in CA. When I was a kid my best friends mother worked at the port. She would ask the crewmen for coins from their country. I have coins from all over the world dated from the 1890s to the 1970s. Oops on the British coin, I thought I saw a similar coin in my bag that was Australian so I thought that's what this one might have been.
Belgium 5 franc-Has slight wear on beard and hair lines at top of head. A very nice xf-au in my humble opinion. Krause has it at $30 in xf. Olmanjon
