My aunt's collection is pictured below. I was trying to evaluate the coins which were passed down from my grandfather. Unfortunately she has taped them to a cardboard! :arghh: anyways, there are some unknowns. Looks like a blank planchet, a dime on one side and a ? On the other, a tax token? German coin?

The ones you have pictured are. A shield nickel. The middle coin (a Seated dime) reverse having been engraved with initials. These are what I have always called "love tokens". Usually done by people to memorialize their relationships. The third one, another seated dime the reverse so heavily worn this it is almost smooth. You can see a hint of the reverse wreath.

Is that what you were asking about or did I miss the question?

I'm afraid I've divided the past into two topics and the pictures are separated. One in question is a 10 cent or dime with a reverse apparently worn smooth with new markings.

So the one in question posted here is the middle coin.

The markings are initials. Definitely a pocket piece/ love token that someone carried with them.
