Yesterday we bought a bunch of wheat rolls from a walk in. He had one roll of 58-D that were nice and red. Others all circulated commons. I'm trying to get some of this stuff put away. Cracking open the rolls (that I spot checked) and dumping them into a bucket. Then I came across a roll with a few uncs in it. VERY toned uncs. I liked them and figured they'd be good for working on scanninng and photo skills so I picked a few up today. http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/forums/abe2.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/forums/abe1.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/forums/abe4.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/forums/abe3.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/forums/abe5.jpg http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x275/clembo1872/forums/abe6.jpg So what's the verdict here folks. Are these "hey cool toning" or "clembo I can't believe you took these home with you"? Honestly I would have taken the home no matter what. I showed them to boss and he asked what he had into them. I told him 2 cents each so he just gave them to me. Hey, I'm already up on these.
Am I tired - the obverse toning all look silver to me? What are the real colors? And as far as I am concerned - if you like them then they must be cool.
Silver gray toning. Interesting. If you oiled them (Blue Ribbon or Coin Care/mineral oil what have you) they might look better in my opinion. They are nice interesting coins.
Hard to tell Dan. I can vouch for the fact it is VERY difficult to get good color pics of copper. You have them in hand and know your copper......are they screamers or not? Experiment, take your best coin in hand and send it off to Todd, see what he can do with the pics to capture color, I myself just autosend to him, i dont even try anymore......your scans are not doing the coins any favors
It is kind of hard to tell just what color those coins really are, but "I don't really see any bright colors or rainbows. Without those, they are going to be very hard to move.
Thanks for the replies guys but I think a few missed my reason for picking them up. I have NOTHING into them and don't plan to move them. They will be perfect for working on my photography (now my wife's role) and scanning techniques. For the record they aren't that beautiful but interesting. Mainly a darker grey with hints of blue and a nice gloss. Let's call them "test subjects".
