I was so inspired by @Justin Lee 's Spanish Augustus collection that I decided to put together a poster showing my 3 latest Seleucis (also spelled Seleucus) and Pieria, Augustus denominations. Then I decided that I might as well show all of my Augustus portrait coins so I added my Augustus denarius which I've had for several months at the top of the page.

Very nice, @Deacon Ray!! I don't have an Augustus from Antioch yet... I'll have to put together the emperors I do have in a nice visual presentation!

    Ping-pong-ing on inspiration here!

Actually, quick question for anyone who might have an answer... What is the difference between the Seleucis and Pieria Antioch and Antioch ad Orontem (which I read means "to the east" in Latin)?

The ςK indicates the 26th year of the Actian era, and the IB indicates the 12th consulship. This dates the coin to 5 BC, just before yours. (Probably one of us has got Christ's birth year, which I understand is most likely to be between 6 and 4 BCE.)

Same thing... "ad Orontem" means "on the Orontes (river)." :)

A problem with forming a group like this is you will tend to think how you might improve the presentation with the addition of one more coin....and then another.

    Awesome coins Deacon Ray!

I’d like to get the denarius some day because it would have been minted during the early years of Christ.

Seleucis and Pieria is the port and Antioch ad Orontem is the city proper on the river.

Thanks, @Curtisimo ! Yours is a great coin and if someone were to own only one Augustus, that one would be a great candidate.

Beautiful coins, James—and a great pair to own. The comet coin has always been fascinating to me.

Thanks @Bing. I loved both of those coins because of the Banker’s marks which I find fascinating.
