Some questions for the darksiders

Where do you guys get your pricing info? I'm looking at getting into a series and buying coins in the 66-68 range ( a lot cheaper than Barbers, and can keep my interest while I am on Barber hiatus), but there are very few auction archives to go off of. Please tell me your secrets.

Most darkside coins is done through Krause books, but sometimes those are worthless so Ebay is the next option. But for that grade range I honestly dont know other then big auction companies.

Are you looking into getting into ancients or just a series in modern world coins? There is tons to choose from in either area.

 

Mat, I am looking at Swiss coins from 1850's to the 1960's.

 

Then most likely Krause Standard Catalog of World Coins with the date range 1801-1900 & 1901 - 2000 may be your best bet.

Swiss isnt my area other then junk francs I have tubes of.

 

Thanks, Doug. I threw some bids out for the Wednesday Teletrade auction that had some decent 68's in it to test the waters. I was completely way off. Much to learn!

 

Well, I took a shot in the dark. Higher mintage coin, but it looks PL almost like a specimen strike. It was a BIN at 105, and I offered 92. Can't wait to get this one in hand.

It's a phrase I stole from the PCGS forums. The darksiders there are the World coin guys. Your ignorance is pardoned.

Is there a secret handshake or what? I don't wanna show up at the next coin club meeting and get wacked or shouted down and told I'm only a VG-8.

 

If you pretty much only collect world coins then yes.

Shame the PCGS DS forum is nearly always dead. I dont even post my ancients on it anymore. I could always count on Lord M. to reply and wanna trade, lol.

 

I haven't seen Lord M around those parts in a while. I'm afraid he might have been an unwilling recipient of das boot.

 

Actually no he wasnt banned, he was on his usual break due to his social condition he has. He poped up in early May or something and said hes back to posting but after that pop up and replying to my PM from a month before his return he's gone MIA again.
