Hi all, I'm reading you all with graded coins and stuff and I'm wondering a bit about all this...

    1. I've searched about it, and can't find! What are the grading fees of PCGS?
    2. Say I have 1960 mint set in its little original plastic "holder"... which is not air tight at all or even a good protection IMO... Wouldn't they be better in graded slabs for archival for the next 40 (dunno how many) years???
    3. Foreign coins? Can they grade them?
    Thanks a lot!!

That changes with the speed and how many coins and what type of coin---most of the time a good guess is $25 per coin.

I wouldn't---a 1960 Mint set isn't worth the money to get it graded---

Yes and no---it depends on where they coins are from.

Rule #1. Never pay more to have a coin graded than the coin is worth. Fiqure around $30 per coin to have them graded.

Unless your mint set is killer high grade, leave it where it is. People like their mint sets in the original packaging.

Yes, they will grade some foreign coins. See rule #1.

You can buy generic do-it-yourself coin world holders if you feel like you just have to have your coins in plastic.

WoW! 25-30 dollars to grade a coin! I know about the process, it's something good, but I'll only grade my best coins... Maybe like my 1858 large cent (the Canada's first 1¢).

I'll think about learning to grade a bit before shipping them to PCGS..

    Thanks

Take some good pictures of them and post them. There are a lot of people here that can let you know whether or not it would be wise to send them in.:smile

    Max,
It's definitely a good idea to learn some more about grading before sending in your coins. Also, when submitting coins to PCGS, you can submit for 18 dollars a coin, but it takes longer for your coin to get graded.

Thanks Becky, good idea... I'm already thinking of some... I'll wait before I get all I ordered and put some order in my collection...

Thanks too to Zaneman.. I think I'd better pay less .. and wait longer, as long as the service quality is the same!

I also forgot to mention that in order to submit coins to PCGS, you must pay an initial fee on top of the grading fee, with the initial fee being 100 dollars. However, if you are in California, every now and then PCGS has collector's Fridays where you can come to collector's universe and submit your coins, stamps, currency etc.
