I wonder how long until those quarters find their way to the Bay Area. I'll get several quarter rolls tomorrow to see if I can find one. So far, I haven't seen a "W" mint mark on any of the 2019 quarters I received in change.

I haven't seen a single 2019 quarter besides the Lowell one that I got at the Baltimore coin show in March.

The only part of this idea I don't like is that unless you live somewhere where the quarters are put out en masse like this, your odds of finding one are slim to none.

So you guys think the average Joe’s of the world will be paying attention and plucking these from circulation quickly? I am of a mind that most folks live too rapidly to notice. Though I hope I am wrong.

All I would like is one of each for my collection. I don’t want to have to pay exhorbatant prices to do so.

Was PCGS really paying $5k for the first one? Seems fake or excessive to me.

I was having a hard enough time finding regular P and D ATB quarters. No way I’m going to find these. I think I am done with album collecting.

That’s sort of funny to read that in a blog dedicated to collecting coins. In fact it seems like most of us are jumping through some hoops or another to add to our collections. Getting on eBay, going to coin shows, etc.

    We’ve already been lured!

If they are fairly randomly distributed you should get about 20 of them in a box.

And how many 2009 dimes and nickels have you found? Their mintages were MUCH higher than than these will be. (I haven't seen ANY of the 2009's yet.)

Luckily I searched for this before starting a whole new post...but I'm glad to see at least one other sane individual agreeing that this is nonsense. I mean, yeah it's cool, but does it ever have the potential to realize the (now with 10 days left) $3500 price? The 96 W Rosie was minted over 500k less than these and hardly gains financial recognition. I'm just wondering everyone's opinions on the seemingly ridiculous price. I guess maybe the bidder intends to try finding the other 1,999,999 to hoard?
Also, if these are being released into circulation, and being found in change from a coffee, can it be MS66 anymore? It goes against literally everything that I've read, heard, or been told about grading. Why does AU58 even exist if MS coins can be found in pocket change? Shouldn't it be AU58 at best?

Yes an MS coin can be found in change. Grading is based on a lot of things. And if a W quarter goes from the mint, to a bag, to a roll, straight to you then technically it hasn’t had a change to wear. It’ll just have hits and nicks from being bumped around in the bag and stuff. If all it took for a coin to be AU58 was to touch a human hand then you could take a fresh MS 70 silver eagle, put your finger on it once and say it’s now AU58. Will there be AU W quarters? You betcha. But they haven’t had enough time to circulate to actually get that wear.

At the same time though, it was circulated. The guy giving out change for that coffee didn't hand pick the W quarter straight from the roll. It was likely broken open and placed into the drawer the same as the other quarters. So technically, it entered circulation and in all senses of the words, it was ALMOST uncirculated? I definitely get your point, but I think it would be a different story with a common coin once it was mentioned that it was found in pocket change.

True. But I think the definition of uncirculated has less to do whether it actually went into circulation and more if it has actual wear. Either way though it probably doesn’t matter who’s right haha. The TPGs will grade them What they will.
