    Meiji 4 (1871) ¥1 - high dot variety Y#9 13.5mm , 1.67g .900 gold (.0482 oz. AGW)

This was the first coin ever minted with the "yen" denomination created by 1871 legislation to replace the older monetary system of mon, shu, bu and ryo.

Add a couple of points to the apparent grade to make up for my poor photography. :)

Are you going by my labels. or by the Krause designation Doug?

I've labeled them "O" and "R" in accordance with the way the JNDA catalog, Jacobs & Vermuele, and Cummings all designate it; not the way Krause does, because in this instance I think Krause is wrong.
