Hey Ya'll Today I got some coins and thought I'd let y'all grade them..... A few notes on the Washington. The highpoints show what looks to be wear....it isn't....it is from where it was in a Coin Album and it is slide marks.....I saw it before it was sent in to NGC....also the toning is in spots and it almost looks like a fingerprint but its also not.....this is a WHITE coin but that is not noted on the slab. On the nickel.....I'm thinking this is a fake....the other side isn't weak like it should be IMHO but thought it was a cool coin and only $7....what do ya'll think? I also had a 1914P Buff come in the mail today....it is a NGC G6 and it might be a 1914/3 but its hard to tell for sure....I'm still seeing what I think on it....maybe I'll post photos later... I'll post the grade on the NGC Washington later.....I know I paid about $5 more than they were going on Heritage but a bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush and besides....I liked it and that is worth the $5! Speedy
Washingtons are soooo hard for me to grade. I'd say 64 but that is probably under a few points. My average seems to be +/- 3 points on those. Nickel.....uhhh......VF?
That clipped planchet error definitely looks fake. I don't see the Blakesly effect near the clip. Charlie
Ok.....NGC put MS66 and I agree....the high points as I stated look like wear but you can see in person that it is slide marks. As for the nickel...I'm pretty sure its fake...and bought it thinking it was one... Speedy
Just so ya know - all I did was a white adjustment. One click, that's it. I used Microsoft Picture Editor - it came pre-loaded on the computer.
Ok....don't know if I have that program or not....will check. A question.....will NGC take the grade down a point if a coin has a lamination?? I saw a 1926-S Buff going on ebay for under $100 and it was a VF for sure but it had a lamination on both sides and I thought that might kill the grade.... Speedy
I don't get this whole deal with when and how "wear" on the coin occurred. Why should it make any difference if wear happened from being put into an album or put into somebody's pocket once? Both circumstances result in the quality of the coin being lessened. I understand the pre vs. post mint issue, but not when, where or how wear, damage or whatever you want to call it happened after the coin left the mint. It is a tough concept to grasp when trying to learn to grade coins.:rolling:
I agree.....I don't understand it all either but that is how it is done in grading....It seems that when the marks are all going one way and are on the high points it tends to be ok because it just came from being in storage....and its not called wear...its just called slide marks....kindof like bagmarks. Speedy
It's not tough to grasp - it just doesn't make sense :goof: Nonetheless, that's how it is. For whatever it's worth - I agree with you.
Is that they year or the grade because that nickel doesn't look like an MS 6 anything to me? There is a slice out of it as well. Ruben
No that is the grade for the quarter.... The nickel is 1960 and would grade abotu VF/XF....and the slice is spposed to be an error....a clipped planchet....but I'm pretty sure its a fake. Speedy
