Some coins I bought off eBay from same seller which I really like. I have been having more fun submitting coins through my dealer than buying new coins. Conversely when I do buy coins I noticed that the downturn in the economy has caused some great coins to come up for sale cheap at my local store. :high5:
1908, probably a MS63 RB, but either the pic is a bit out of focus or the feathers are badly defined. If the later is the case it would bring down the grade, imo. The 1865 is a beaut MS61/62 Bn IMO, I like it the most of the two.
You guys are close. Few more guesses and I'll post. I hope people enjoy that. I like when others do this as it's fun to test you skills against the grader of the moment at either PCGS or NGC. I personally don't buy or submit to other companies.
Probably both are MS63RB if PCGS. I like to do that on my coins also. Sent a group of 12, from same roll of lincolns to NCG and before I sent them, I found something on each to serve as an identifier. I had graded them as (4) MS-65, (5) MS-64, and (3) MS-63. I received notice but not the coins yet, there were (6) MS-65, (3) MS-64, (1) MS-63 and (2) "improperly cleaned". Hopefully I was close per coin. I should get them in a few days. Jim
64 RB and 63 BN Ok here it is: the 1908 is a 64 RB. I was hoping for RD but it's fine. Included this photo for bqcoins- I think the feathers are weak towards the end by the TY of LIBERTY. The 1865 is a 63 BN. Was hoping for a 64 RB, but the nick on the face of the Indian was probably what did it I suppose. I think the misattributed it as Plain 5 when it is a Fancy 5. Is this correct, if anyone knows?
I actually like the 1865 better than the 1908 - I love the brown coins with the hidden red luster poking through.
Thanks Larry. Yes Mark I like these type of brown coins- the contrast between the red/orange hues and warm brown has such eye appeal. Wow- that was poetic. Maybe I could work for the auction houses dd::goofer:
Wow, I'm bad at grading these coins -- at least I got the color correct. As for the fancy 5 versus plain 5 -- and without going to any references -- it's a plain 5 to my eye.
