Here are 2 more coins that arrived today, thought you might like to see a new thread :smile 1934-S Peace.$, I think my light was at too low of a angle, as the wear looks like a brillo cleaning, but in hand looks "calmer"dd: and a 1937-D, nope not a 3-leg Thanks for looking! Jim
Nice Coins Jim! I heard a dremel tool with the right attachment could remove the unwanted leg... Nah, just kidding. jeankay
Whats going on with the S in states on the Peace Dollar? Also check out the MM on the Buffalo. Nice snags there Jim. Always like to see coins finding new homes
The Dollar's "S" in STATES is a flat scrape, very hard to see on the coin, looks like a reeding scrape from another coin, but could be human related. The "D" mm on the buffalo was punched so close to "E", that it actually overlaps ( by just a tiny bite) the lower arm tip. Not sure if that is a variety or not, but not in any of my references. Thanks for the close look, I appreciate it. Jim
Ruben, I agree with you. I was tempted to get a modern gold buffalo, but there is a difference, too smooth, rather like the modern Lincoln IMHO. I decided not to do a complete collection of these, but I do like the toning on many. Jim
100% an artist has to understand the materials and tools that he is using to make art. You can't just translate a design to another material without making major design changes. Ruben
desertgem, that's a nice looking buffalo! I noticed that the lower feather looks like it's detached from the indians portrait. Lou
The feather is Almost detached, still hanging on. A small sliver attaching the top to the neck and a small ridge connecting th bottom to the next feather. I can take a close up later if it is interesting. That's why these coins are so interesting. Jim
Looks like the mintmark on the buffalo on the buffalo is possibly repunched? Even if it isn't, nice coins. :thumb: Phoenix
Well I love to photo these ! So here is another couple of photos of the mint mark ( I can see the hint of serif doubling at top of mm, but with it jamming into the letter, it would be tough to justify. Under the scope it looks tilted a little towards the "E". The second photo is the feather. Thanks for looking , Jim
