    日本銀行 = Bank of Japan
    日本銀行券 = Bank of Japan Banknote

    日本銀行券A号10円
    Bank of Japan Banknote Series A 10 Yen (first issued 1946)

    Japanese read from right to left until 1948. Obverse shows the National Japanese Diet, or Parliament, building (国会議事堂) built from 1920 - 1936

    日本銀行券B号100円
    Bank of Japan Banknote Series B 100 Yen (first issued 1953)

    The obverse depicts Itagaki Taisuke (板垣退助), 1837 - 1919, known as the first leader of a political party in Japan and the leader of the "Freedom and People's Rights Movement." The reverse shows the National Diet Building.

    日本銀行券C号500円
    Bank of Japan Banknote Series C 500 Yen (first issued 1969)

    Japan_1969_500Yen_02.png
    The obverse depicts Iwakura Tomomi (岩倉具視), 1825 - 1883, a key figure in Japan's Meiji-era modernization. The reverse shows Mount Fuji (富士山).

    Series E currently circulates in Japan with series F scheduled to first appear in 2024. For series F, large Arabic numerals will replace the large Japanese Kanji for the denomination values, apparently to conform to the "global standard" for banknotes.

    Nice thread. I learned a lot from the way you put the information about each note.

    Interesting show & tell. Just curious if there are any particular series or denominations (prefixes from the 1953 series) to look out for?
