A little over a year ago I decided to start a collection of Mint and proofs sets from all over the Globe. At this time I don't even recall what inspired me. I think I was searching for a particular Silver coin and came across a Proof set that was less expensive than the Single coin by itself. Whatever the reason I think I got carried away, or maybe obsessed. Since then I have manage to obtain a little over 50 sets. A couple more are on the way and I am actively searching for a couple more. Yesterday I set about to reorganize the collection and came up with some interesting statistics.

    51 Total Sets
    44 Countries
    38 Proof Sets
    1 Proof Like Set
    12 Mint Sets
    20 Sets contain Silver
    52 total Silver coins
    34+ ounces of Silver
0.375 ASW lease amount of Silver in a set
5.6931 ASW most amout of Silver in a set
    $2.27 Least amount spent
    $100 Most amount spent
$3.50 Least valuable set (Using Krause as a basis of value, not always accurate)
$180 Most Valuable set (Same as above)
    6 Sets valued over $100, Total $840
$276 Total cost of above sets
$155 Biggest spread between my cost and Krause retail
746.15% Largest % of difference between cost and retail Cost $12.99 value $110
80.51% difference between total cost and retail
    150% Enjoyment factor
    2000 Lowest mintage of set
    400,000 Higest mintage of set
11 Sets with mintage under 10,000
9 sets with mintage between 10,000 and 20,000
9 sets with mintage between 20,000 and 50,000
3 sets with mintage between 50,000 and 100,000
3 lowest number of coins in a set ( Haiti)
11 higest number of coins in a set ( Iceland)
    347 total number of coins
    1952 oldest set
    2009 newest set
1976 Haiti Proof Set. Favorite set (for now)
1973 Barbados $10 and 1972 Trinidad and Tobago $10 Tied for favorite coin

Anyway, that's a lot of stats. I am way too organized and have way too much time on my hands. I just started a vacation and was a little bored today.

This is a link to view a slide show if anyone is interested in seeing them all together.
I would enjoy hearing which set is your personal favorite and which individual coin trips your trigger.

Going to Grapevine TX coin show Saturday. Hope to find something interesting.
Unfortunately the dealer with the best inventory is a big jerk. I wouldn't take anything from him if it were free. But that's another story.

Not hard to get carried away or obsessed. That's what afflicts most of us on CT, isn't it?
