Jefferson nickels has been my main collecting preference since the beginning. I can tell you, I have seen a lot. I received a large lot of nickels today, and there were a few things I haven't seen in hand before. Thoughts on this one? Scalped! I've seen quite a few "broken nose" Mercury dimes, but never one on a Jefferson nickel. I assume the cause is the same for the Mercs. That being a heavily polished die. I have never seen a "black beauty" Jefferson nickel in hand. I think that might have just changed. Any thoughts? This is caused during the annealing process when it's heated to long. Bonus full steps as well.
Looks like that first one was from a die that was nearly done. I see a crack through the date and is that one through TRUST as well? And the broken nose is especially cool!
Don't think that's a Black Beauty, the kind you're talking about anyway. That looks like ordinary toning to me. This is the kind of Black Beauty you are talking about - To understand why I am saying - "the kind you are talking about" - read this thread - http://www.cointalk.com/threads/que...a-black-beauty-jefferson-nickel.224175/page-2 or this one - http://www.cointalk.com/threads/1959-jefferson-black-beauty-just-how-many-are-still-out-there.90771/ This is what I know as a Black Beauty - Those coins that ANACS labels as being a Black Beauty, well, suffice it to say that in my opinion ANACS should be ashamed of themselves. Just another example of just how far that company has fallen.
Of course....what, and you dont? Gotta get on the new wave coin collecting ride.......its the digital money that will be oh so popular in the not so distant future.
Actually im quite sure that 'digital' money is already THE collecting craze.....i dont see many folks pulling out actual dollar bills when they say they are 'worth' $1 million, $5 million, or $50 million. They usually just point to a screen and say 'see look, im worth $60 bajillion' Its sad to think we work all day, practically everyday, and only have some digital numbers to show for it, sometimes with a few possessions thrown in the mix if we were able to buy a house, car, etc
