Hi everyone, I'm a newbie. I mostly buy silver bullion and coins on eBay at silver spot price or within about 10% of it. I've managed to buy lots that included Morgan and Peace silver dollars, silver Eagles, proof and uncirculated coins and various foreign bullion coins. I've had about 35 transactions with no problems yet and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.... The last 'deal' that I got was an uncirculated roll of 1964 Washington quarters for less than spot including shipping. I'm having a lot of fun with it so far, and since most of what I buy is 'junk silver', I just keep it in a box and play with it and watch it grow. Those are my coins that I don't have to worry about damaging or ruining their future value or collectability. I'd like to hear of other's good finds. I hope to talk with you all more soon and get to know you. Please be patient with me, I'm a newbie and I haven't collected for long. I'm 43 and this hobby brings out the kid in me again!
Hi I fine a few nice buffalo nickels on ebay in my price range. I am a 44 yr old newbie. I am glad you are having fun. It is a fun hobby for me. I set a side a few bucks a week, and shop for coins all week long. nice to meet you.
If silver is what your after you shold look up the Half dollar threads specifically the searching half dollar threads.
silvrluvr - I restarted collecting after a long absence in a manner similar to you, but I take better care of the coins. Even though they are basically bullion coins, condition may still matter to varying degrees on a resale. I try to avoid buying coins that look like they were stored the way you describe unless they are heavily discounted. But buying silver coins near or below bullion value is a very low risk way to collect/invest.
Neat...so how much was the total??...most of the time the lowest I can get silver quarters are $1.00 each.... My last deal wasn't on Ebay but I got a 1958 PF66 PCGS for $45.50 total...I tried to talk down a guy in CA for one...he wanted $58+S&H...I said no and after a few months got this one... Speedy
Hmmm. On Ebay, I've gotten: - A counterfeit Seated dollar - A counterfeit Trade dollar - A couple *really nicely* polished '21 Morgans, wonderfully shiny, not even showing polishing marks under the loupe - A heavily-dipped '79S Morgan that would have graded MS65+ if not dipped Then again, I've also gotten: - A VF '78CC Morgan for $20 - A MS65-ish Barber quarter for MS60 money - A BU Barber dime for $25 Most importantly, I'm being exposed to the best possible learning environment for a budding young (OK, well maybe not young ) coin dealer. Ebay is a concentration of both the best and the worst of coin collecting - occasional insane bargains heavily intermixed with some of the real dregs of the industry. The money I've lost is more than compensated by the education I've received, and although I'm not getting rich, I_am breaking even.
Hi all, my 1964-D roll of uncirculated quarters from eBay was $48 and some cents. I've got some bids out right now on Eagles and uncirculated Canada silver dollars, (in original mint packaging). I'm willing to pay spot +5%, including shipping, for those types of coins. My last lot of 19 silver Eagles, including a 1989 proof, was for about $7.50 apiece. No 1996's though. Lol. I can't believe some of the deals that are out there to be had, but they are!! It just takes some looking. I'm lucky to have a lot of free time on my hands. I'm not rich and my coin buying budget is not large, but I do my 'homework' and spend a fair amount of time searching. I don't buy anything for resale, If I make the decision to bid, I plan to keep it. I look at it as a fun hobby where I'm not in a dither about how much money I could make off of some of the lots that I've gotten. I strictly focus on the coins and already know that with what I pay, I will always get all of my money back in the future if I really needed it. Now, If the price of silver ever collapses, then I'm hurtin'!! I've decided to take that risk. It's all good fun for me, and keeps me out of trouble...lol!!
Actually, the Eagle proof from that last lot is a 1988, not 1989. That year seems pricey compared to some...I enjoy looking at it just as much as I would any other year, whether it costs more or less.
I may be optimistic about the obverse but the reverse works. I grade by consulting between Photograde and Heritage's completed auctions.
Nice and cheap...I guess it went for that because of the blacker color... Still a nice price for a CC!!! Speedy
