Hey guys and gals. I am looking for your help one more time. As a lot of Yall know, I read two books a week and since I started collecting coins they have been about lincolns. Could some of the resident Lincoln and copper experts recommend some good books about the subject. I am really into proofs and also would like to get a better understanding of MPL's. I would really appreciate the input and if any of you have extras on these books you want to sell, let me know and I may buy them. Thanks
A solicitation to buy really belongs in the BST portion of these boards. And Charmy's recent excellent thread lists all the standard reference books for pretty much any American coin series you could think of. I suggest checking there first. As far as I know, there aren't really any books devoted to the MPL's.
This is an excellent book on MPL. It was in several cointalk threads when first released. http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/lincoln-cent-matte-proofs.html
Well I own Lange's book and it is a good one, but my #1 general book on Lincoln cents is the second edition of The Authoritative Reference on Lincoln Cents by John Wexler and Kevin Flynn http://www.coinbooks.org/esylum_v13n01a04.html
Financeman, if you would like some fiction to add in there, you might try Loose Coins by Hensley and Townsend and The Double Eagle by James Twining Jim
This really wasn't a solicitation to buy books. It was more to get peoples opinions on books on the Lincoln series. Read charmy's post that listed a few on the series but wanted to hear everyone's recommendations. I appreciate all the input but keep the book listings coming. Thank
IMHO, this is the BEST and most thorough book out there on Matte Proof Lincolns, and is also on the list of reference books I posted earlier.
If you love Lincoln the sandburg trilogy on his life is a pretty good read. I do not know if it is still in print, but it should be. A more recent book is called "A Team of Rivals" it is by a noted historian and some say that our current president has mirrored Lincolns policy by having HIllary, and Joe Biden on his administration team.
Just went to one of my many coin shows today. One thing about this monthly one is there is always a dealer with a table of coin books. Some are really thick. He has them on almost any coin, error coins, etc that is possible. And if you ask him, he'll get you even more. Try going to coin shows. Many do have dealers that deal in books. AND, usually no sales tax, no postage and handling, cheaper than anything on line. At one coin show I usually get the Red Book for $10 for the ringed version and $12 for the hard cover. Chip if your in Northern Illinois, you should try some of the 4 coin shows a month here.
