I grew up with Spongebob and thought this set of silver would be cool. I did not realize this set brings close over $300. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Niue-Island...769?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43b5a2f621
Spongebob is clever and funny. My little one was enamored with it when she was 4, and I think I've seen every episode. But I prefer my bullion to look a little less goofy.
Seven bidders. Still, CHEAP @ $363.22 on 11/19/12 POS @ 32.67, a 178% premium. Why? APMEX currently sells 'em for over USD$ 600. (a 379% premium today) http://www.apmex.com/Product/66921/...SpongeBob_Coin_Set_in_Treasure_Chest_Box.aspx The original premium, fwiw, appears to have been 186% in November 2011 and 211% in December 2011. I have no idea how many of the projected 100k were actually minted, or how quickly whatever mintage sold out. http://www.ibtimes.com/spongebob-squarepants-silver-coins-be-sold-sets-four-553158 Interesting story about the PFG Mint - a cautionary tale to anyone buying bullion from 'little operators.' http://www.boxofglitter.com/portfolios/2012-niue-2-spongebob-squarepants-set/ http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/07/19/us-peregrine-bankruptcy-spongebob-idUSBRE86I15N20120719 http://www.theatlanticwire.com/busi...was-long-spongebob-squarepants-bullion/54801/ I alluded to Russell Wasendorf Sr. on the Norfeds thread: THAT'S HIM. I had no idea he was Silver scammer too. http://www.cointalk.com/t218929-7/#post1596055
I don't watch teevee - has this been turned into an episode on AdultSwim ??? PFGBest still has a "website" to collect investor money but it hasn't been updated since the CEO was arrested. Black Hole? http://www.pfgpreciousmetals.com/ If we are to believe hysterical conspiracy theorist/ 'Tyler Durden' on ZeroHedge, the Silver has been transferred to JP Morgan's vaults (AHAHAHAhahahaha!) http://www.zerohedge.com/news/pfgbe...on-segregated-client-money-has-just-vaporized Or will the burned PFG futures clients get paid in Spongebob coins ? lol Looking for data on the 'SpongeBob' bullion. Found this. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/07/peregrine-financial-spongebob-coins_n_1864897.html More info here: http://commoditycustomercoalition.org/?p=1608 "Peregrine owns 1,528 sets, according to the bankruptcy court filing's 180-page document that lists assets and some liabilities. A note added, "2 sets were located in Iowa desks, 1 set is held by Tom Garland in Chicago, and FBI inventoried 1449 sets; so PFG is missing 76 sets." How many sets were produced and SOLD, actually? Nowhere close to 100k obv... so, maybe just 2,000 or so? Maybe someone will contact NZ Mint and get the stat? http://www.nzmint.com/people Super, SUPER COLLECTIBLE at such low mintages (and where the "FBI seized bullion" might yet be melted.)
o.k. quick perusal of feeBay shows 15 sets available, USD$ 650. - 850. (10 for that HIGH price, from a German seller.) Recent sales might give you an idea 'market price' base-price to OFFER - fwiw, these bullion collectibles are retaining value much much better than Norfeds have.
