You know when you have to many coins? When you start finding DDO's and DDR's on coins you have forgot about having.... However since DDO's as well as DDR's are not my best suit. I decided to ask for some help on these two. the first a 1939 P Jefferson Nickel something I set to the side years ago as it's in an SGS slab. floating to the top of the pile this evening I believe it to be a DDO. It looks to be full steps or possible 5 FS. Since SGS gave it an MS-70 I never paid it no mind as we all know all their coins they graded were MS-70's

Next is a 1971 S Lincoln cent. This cent came from the U.S. mint set that had in it an 1971 S no S nickel. I also believe it the Lincoln to be a DDO . It's graded by PCGS as an PR 65 RD.
    What sat ye from my images.....? 1939 P SGS obv..jpg 1939 P SGS Rev.jpg 1939 P SGS Date Jefferson.jpg 1939 SGS God.jpg 1939 SGS Liberty 2.jpg 1939 P SGS Steps.jpg 1939 P SGS.jpg 1939 P SGS Trust.jpg

    DDO-005 ?

I cant give you the coneca #s because its been a very long day and im already seeing double. As far as i can tell though, I will say no to the 39, (it does appear to be doubled) because die deterioration doubling seems to be so common with this coin.
Yes to the lincoln but, like i said im sorta tipsy:hungover:

The Jefferson is deceptive because it's such a late die state; die deterioration is beginning to obscure important details. I'm inclined to agree with your attribution of DDO-005 based on what I see in GOD; that DDO is characterized (among other things) by remains of the original punch in the bottoms of the openings in those letters. These are not features easily duplicated by MD or die deterioration, and I see them here.

Go after it with varying lighting to see if you can highlight the split serifs in WE TR; I suspect those will be the most visible of the other pickups on an old die.

I'm also inclined to agree with RPM-008 for the Lincoln due to the prominence of the structures inside the lower curve of the S. This is one where there isn't rally sufficient photographic information out there to be conclusive.

Thanks Dave as I was about 95% sure on my take on both coins. The Lincoln the tie is re cut or doubled as well as his profile if you look at the lips that's not back scatter that's double , as it looks the same in a loop as a photograph . As for the Jefferson well I knew she wasn't bad looking but that slab with ms-70 was such a turn off....no of course it isn't a 70 ,but....she does look sweet and pretty sure it's FS .
