One of the guys at work girl friend is the head teller at a local bank. He just forwarded me this message: "Tell Darryl I got a present for him. A customer just brought me 4 silver 50 cent pieces dated 1951,1952, and 1964. I am buying them for him. Ask him if he wants be to get him the 1957 Silver Certificate dollar bill I have too." It's like Christmas in July .
I'm pretty excited to get them - this is after only two days of looking out for me. There is a happy hour in my near future where I will make sure to buy the drinks for as long as they want to stay. BTW: This must be a British Slang thing because I have never heard that one before :smile "snap her hand off". LOL - I think I get the gist of it though...
Off topic - The first time I traveled to Nottingham I overheard a Senior Sales Manager tell a new employee about how badly the Americans butcher the language and that he probably would not understand a word we said. I had to laugh and then commented that I am standing right there listening to this critique of our language abilities. It's all good my friend...
My god you should here some of the accents round here LOL I sometimes have problems understanding them, what were you doing in Nottingham?? Mrs Orc is from there
Awesome find, Darryl. Particularly all in one day. That was a good week for my wife when she worked at a gas station, much less in one day. And for both Darryl (USS656 - Is she an Ohio or a Los Angeles?) and DeOrc. Notice where both Darryl and I are from. According to some studies I've read, some experts think that the Pittsburgh dialect is closer to Elizabethan English than anywhere else in the world.
very nice! There is a teller i usually go to at one of the banks, when she gets back from vacation, Im gonna ask her to look for some stuff for me.
AWESOME Darryl! You need to treat this lady VERY well as well as your buddy. I'm not sure if you're into currency at all but if not you need to take a CRASH course sir. You have the connection a guy like me only DREAMS of. clembo
Off topic again- You guys are killing me with the discussion of the English language. De Orc - why would you even want to speak "American"? We have destroyed the language over here. It is amazing though that we can all understand one another though. I live in Northern Indiana near Chicago. We don't go "to the store" we go "tada store". Go 30 miles south and you get into a southern drawl. Travel a few miles west and you're into ebonics and spanish. Somehow we all communicate. AIN'T English grand?
My sister is a teller at a bank and she has never watched out for me like that! Maybe one day she will... that was awfully nice of your co-workers girlfriend.
(USS656 - Is she an Ohio or a Los Angeles?) - Neither - I'm a little older than that - - 640 class SSBN - GW Carver Ya it was the only thing good to come out of my work day today - Got better when I got home with a win in an on-line poker game, and a kiss from my 2 year old daughter as she went up to bed. Go Steelers
This guy is the salt of the earth - he would give away anything except his gun collection if he thought it would make someone happy. I am not surprised that his girl is as nice a person as he is. Sometimes you just know when people are good folks - I say that regardless of the coins - Steve is one of the few people at work I would help without question. Thanks - I WILL hya: have to take a crash course in notes because I have no idea of what to tell her to look out for besides silver certificates. I told her if it doesn't look like normal money, I'm interested! That's pretty broad. I did give some specifics about coin dates - by denomination. Anything that comes my way will be a bonus and I will be certain to take care of her any time she sends anything my way. It is like a dream come true to have someone in a bank looking for you.
Two of my sisters live in denver and I cannot get them to send me D quarters . They are not into it so I guess I understand... Thanks and keep working on her - show her your coins at every opportunity and maybe she will see how important it is to you. Good Luck Darryl
Have to agree - just travel the US a little and there are places you would not understand a word spoken and I'm not talking about some other foriegn languages.
I should explain I sometimes use a term or two that is pure British and it can confuse folks LOL so I find it easier to try to converse in the lingua franca of the native population
