Need some help here. For your consideration is a 1926 P Peace dollar. Ive had it for a few weeks now and I cant settle on a grade between AU and a pretty low MS.... Seemed like a good time to turn to the collective wisdom of CT and get some help.
My opinion, AU. While there does not seem to be any wear on the high points based on the pics, there is more than enough wear in the fields to justify it. And that large reed mark on Liberty's cheek makes it border line for a damaged classification.
Not sure if the photos are correct but sure looks like a lot of dinks on the rim. The apparent wear on the Reverse also lowers the value somewhat. It's a nice coin but I'd really just barely give it the AU due to the dinks and marks on the face.
Agreed. The wear on the reverse alone is enough to miss an MS rating, IMO. It's a pretty coin, but I would actually grade this borderline XF/AU for the detracting marks mentioned above.
I don't make out any wear but you do have some contact markes on the fields. The coin seems to have nice luster to it. I would go about MS61 JCFormerly Jazzcoins Joe
The overall contact marks for a huge coin like this is not all that bad you have to take that into consideration when grading these coins. Now if there were this many contact marks on a cent then it would be AU ,but this is an MS coin to me without a doubt. The coin has good eye apeal nice luster so don't forget how the grading standards work. JC Formerly Jazzcoins Joe
Thanks yall.... GDJ hit my problem right on the head... no real wear on the high points, but lots of other stuff. Had me very confused. As far as the nicks and dings, the other Peace dollars I have at MS-63 are actually a bit more dinged up. None of them have the bag mark she has on her cheek though.... (kinda looks like she was in a fight..... lol ironic for a peace dollar.... ). I am going to list it in my dbase as an AU although I am always open to being talked into a higher grade....
