Solid black Jefferson nickel??

    Hey all i found a black nickel about 2 month s ago...didnt think much of it up til bout 3days ago...i told and showed my neighbor..ASA he seen it he called it a BLACK Beauty....wat is that and wat does it mean for the collectibilty on them..rare..maybe.. idk just sone knowledge would be cool...post pics l8r..i believe its a196? Jefferson nickel.

    You need to show a picture of it. There are wasy to distinguish if you have an actual Black Beauty or not.

    Cupro-Nickel is the combination of metal that Nickels are composed of. So are Clad coins. The color can be affected by long time eposure to elements and chemicals. That would be called Environmental Exposure Toning or Damage.

    Improperly Annealed planchets are what the term "Black Beauty" are given to.

    Here are examples from my error collection -
    1959(1).JPG 1964(1).JPG
    Someone tried to clean the 2nd coin and ruined a good mint error.
