Only got the second, from 2012, sealed at mint.

You could have probably arranged this one as well:

NOT MY COIN/PHOTOTS, these are relatively new and a bit expensive for now. Pretty sure I am not going for one, unless I get it for around $3 shipped.

A friend of mine went to Sochi to go skiing and really liked all the new facilities there - quite a bit of the work is finished already. Looks like a place I will have to check via about a 1 day train trip hopefully this next winter but before the Olympics and all the requisite price increases on hotels etc.

Did 5 ruble coin get eliminated in old size? I admit I have accidentally spent them as quarter in USA, along with big 5 kopek coin of UA.

Good, then I can still accidentally spend 15 cents worth of coin for 25 cents.

What I find interesting about the Sochi coins is that they feature the eagle of the Russian Federation. Usually the Russian coins, even commems issued these days, have the eagle from the central bank logo ...

I am not complety sure how come the logo of Bank Of Russia is the same as the logo of Russian Republic that briefly existed in 1917, but it seems that they put special birds on special coins, to honor the occasion I`d guess.

They put the 1825 eagle version (some call it "masonic eagle"?) on 2012 2 rub. minted for the 200 years of 1812 war victory:

    8.JPG

Before that in 2011 and then 2012/2013 there was the official eagle adopted in 1993 on 25 rub. Sochi coins you can see above. Maybe to emphasize that Sochi is indeed in Russia.

On all "standard" circulation and on some commemorative issues there is the one from 1917 Republic:

Which was the very last eagle design before they turned it into RSFSR coat of arms:

It is rather strange, but the Old Monarchist Eagle with a 3 crowns is the official symbol of our Republic. At the same time, I am a monarchist and I like such an old symbols. Moreover, a tsar is much better for me than a president:bow:

This colorful coin is neat. Do you know if it is for sale someplace?

Some lady bought it in 2009, its MS65. As far as I know, it is not offered for sale but I saw many that look like this, silver tones. :)
