So there was awesome YN...

...and he received a box of coins from a friend of his grandmother. Out of this box he pulled many cool coins and took crummy pictures of them.

While waiting to post more stuff to my coin show thread, I decided to dig out these pictures and post them here.

Pretty neat. Some of them are worth way more than melt for instance the Chinese and Japanese silver coins.

 

Probably, but I haven't tried to I.D. the Jap' and have got marginal results on the Chinese example.

Chinese coin would be from Kwangtung Province (Guangdong) - issued around 1890 - 1908 ish. Denomination is 1.44 mace or 20 cents.

Japanese coin is a 50 sen coin issued in 1928.

 

Cool, any idea what the value might be?

 

Hard to say - probably ten dollars each? Prices are all over the place for a while. Might get more for the Chinese coin. You might fear that it's heavily counterfeit (which it is) but I think it looks ok.

The box is mine, not what they came in, I thought it would be cool to "display" them in it.
