My little girl has shown interest in coins (the first just wanted to spend them)
She knows "UNC" and circulated, etc. and wants to do an UNC set of Roosevelt Dimes

This book I have would look GORGEOUS filled with dimes... I know they're totally frowned upon, but are they *really* that bad?!? What if we kept it in a ziplock bag?

    Here is a page.... Book.jpg

Just do it. Have fun with your daughter. It's worth a few dimes.

I would suggest a dansco album. They have clear slide covers over the coins so you won't get fingerprints on them, and you can see both sides of the coins. They are a little more expensive being around $20-30 for the album, but I think it's worth it to keep those UNC coins in the best condition possible.

Those books are what I had when my father started me collecting 25-30 years ago and it was a lot of fun.
My books were of lincoln cents and buffalo nickels. To start, however, I didn't go for the uncirculated stuff, so taking
them in and out of the album to look at them with sticky fingers was no big deal.

But if it were me, I would say go for it. Along the way, she will learn how to handle coins carefully to keep them
in uncirculated condition (hard when pushing coins in these album though). In my opinion, for the money you would spend on a
new, higher priced album, you could plug up several of those holes with Roosevelts. I would, however, keep on eye out for used
dansco/littleton albums at coin shows. I grabbed a couple of them in nearly new condition for 4 bucks each.
Having one of these, as pballer stated, would help keep the coins in UNC condition and avoid the fingerprints and coins randomly falling
    out of the cheaper albums.

I started at 7 with this type of albums 50 some years later I still have them ...make her happy and let her have the thrill of passing it on.....MHO.. :)

  10. Defintely do it. Trust me...they grow up too fast. Strike while the iron (or cupronickel clad) is hot. Enjoy. TC

Thanks all, it's just hard not to like those shiny, silver coins against that light beige background - and the black printing of the year, mintage, etc. ----- It looks really, really good. It's just too bad they're exposed. I think we could keep fingers away, and the coins fit nice and tight... but being exposed to the air I'd imagine they'd tone rather quickly...

Not the air so much as the paper, but seriously, who cares? It's a cool project with your kid. :thumb:

For sure, I'm glad she is showing interest... as I mentioned my first born wanted nothing to do with coins (I asked her and a friend to sort pennies today and they rolled their eyes)

Guess my only point was/is just how nice it looks -- I'd use the books with other sets of my own if it weren't for the exposure of the actual coins...

As others have said, do it and have fun! Anything that promotes family togetherness and enjoyment is time well spent. It's the ultimate investment.

I've gone through an awful lot of clad dimes (and quarters) in my life, and toned ones are something of a rarity. They're much more resistant to toning than silver or straight copper. Enjoy the album you have with the daughter you have. :)

Ah, the dreaded 'roll eyes'. I've got four of these 'gussies' Kevin, albeit they're a tad bit older than your young ladies......:)

Enjoy it! I still like to fill those albums (junk silver sets hehe) but the Dansco type album is the way to go if you want to protect the shiny's from little fingers :D always fun to do a "circulation" set too :D

I love circulation sets! As a matter of fact, I did a Jefferson Nickel "1938 to date" set out of pocket change a few years ago (cheated on a few war nickels) ---- When I look at my change now, though, I'm not sure I could do it....

I have a Intercept Shield album for my Uncirculated dimes it just helps to keep fingers from touching them and you get to see both sides of the coin instead of just one. It will also keep most of the air out so the coins wont tone as easily. If you are going to take the time to do all unc. then spend a little on the album so it will last forever! if you would like to see what it looks like with dimes in it see my youtube video "my dime album" search for richcali21 and you will see I have a few dozen of these albums. In my opinion it is the only way to go for uncirculated coins.
